Originally the duster coat was a loose, full length coat worn by horsemen to protect their clothing from dirt road dust. These dusters were normally light coloured and made from light weight material such as canvas or linen. A slit up the back provided ease for movements while on a horse and at the turn of the century, both men and women wore dusters to protect their clothes while riding an open top car.
As we slowly transition into spring, I've noticed more and more stores to carry their own version of the duster coat. Moving away from the traditional earth tones now duster coats can be seen available in all sorts of colours and patterns. My favourite thing about this coat is how light weight and flowy it is. I definitely will be adding more to my closet this upcoming season.
